Q) What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is defined as a practice of acquiring high search engine rankings through keyword research, modification of HTML code to reflect the keywords and use of off-page factors like link exchanges with other websites to promote the site via a link exchange campaign. It is also called a branch of online marketing. By optimizing, a search engine finds the page, indexes it, and displays the page when a search is made for the keyword.

Q) What are the most important factors for on-page optimization?

On-page optimization deals with the page itself as opposed to off-page optimization. The important on-page optimization factor includes:

  • Content: As well aware of, Content is King and this applies to the on-page factor of optimization where in the search engine finds for relevant content based on the site theme and also include targeted keywords. Content should be natural and not copied as it can lead to a heavy penalty on the site.
  • Navigation Structure: A site should have a well-designed navigation structure as it allows the search engine spiders to follow all the internal links. The best way for a search engine crawler to follow the links is through a sitemap that consists of all the pages internally linked to the site.
  • Use of HTML tags: Emphasis should be laid on proper use of HTML tags like h1 and h2 tags, title and description tags, strong and emphasis tags on the targeted keywords as it gives more weightage.

PageRank is a method implemented by Google that measures web page's importance with only taking into account the links and links related factors. Page Rank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name PageRank). While one of many factors which helps to determine the ranking of Google search results, Page Rank algorithm provide the basis for all of Google's web search tools. PageRank is a trademark for Google.
